What is a Canine Good Citizen?

The purpose of the Canine Good Citizen program is to ensure that our favorite companion, the dog, can be a respected member of the community because it is trained and conditioned to act mannerly in the home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs. The program embraces both purebred and mixed-breed dogs.

Canine Good Citizen training is fun and useful. Through it, you and your dog will establish a closer bond, and your dog will have the added benefit of knowing how to please you. This test of your dog’s manners and training is not a competition and does not require that you and your dog perform with precision.

What is an AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy?

An AKC S.T.A.R. puppy has been through at least six training classes with an approved AKC CGC Evaluator and is under a year old. The program is a natural pre-curser to the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test.

S.T.A.R. stands for “Socialization, Training and a Responsible owner.” Puppies can begin training as soon as they have the necessary vaccines. At the end of the training course, the CGC Evaluator will administer the test. Upon passing, owners and their puppies will be enrolled in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program and will receive an AKC S.T.A.R. puppy package which includes a *certificate, *neck medal, *handbook, * subscription to monthly email newsletter that includes training tips.

Note : Hourly Obedience training services are limited to the Philadelphia area (8 mile radius). Hours by appointment.
