| CANINE GOOD CITIZEN (CGC) TESTING NIGHT
The Greater Philadelphia Dog Fancier's Assn. is sponsoring CGC testing on Wednesday night, February 18th from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Testing will be done at The Memorial Church of St. Luke at 1946 Welsh Road (near Rt 1) in the Northeast. Come and observe or have your dog tested. To register for testing ($15), call (215) 551-5254.
WEIGHT-PULLING BEATS DOG FIGHTING! ---
On Saturday, October 11th we held the popular "Lug-Nuts" dog weight-pulling event in Northern Liberties. Lug-Nuts was created to show that you can have fun competing with your dog without jeopardizing your dog's well being. Owner and dog compete as a team against others by pulling bags of dog food on sleds. Cash prizes and gifts went to three lucky winners.
PEDIGREE FOOD RECALL
CARLISLE, Pa. (NDP )-- Pedigree Dog Food is recalling four varieties of its food because it may be contaminated by salmonella.
Here are the recalled foods:
Pedigree Large Breed Original (UPC 2310029158)
Pedigree Mealtime Crunchy Bites Small (UPC 2310005104)
Pedigree Small Crunchy Bites Beef (UPC 2310031483)
Pedigree Small Crunchy Bites (UPC 2310014719)
Customers are urged to check for the above-listed UPC numbers on any packages of Pedigree Dog food in their homes. If you have any of the dog foods listed above, Giant and Martin's food stores will accept them for a full refund. This recall of pet food has allegedly affected 37 states.
Consumers can also call the Mars Consumer Care Line at 866-298-8332 if they have questions.

Pet Evacuation Act is Passed!
On May 22 the U.S. House of Representatives passed the
Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act, H.R. 3858, which
requires state and local emergency management agencies to make plans that
take into account the needs of individuals with pets and service animals
in the event of a major disaster or emergency. The legislation passed
by a vote of 349 to 24.
